Tyre Handlers

Tyre handlers are designed to improve efficiency and safety when handling large, heavy tyres, especially off-the-road (OTR) tyres used in mining, earth-moving and other heavy industries.

The Saur Tyre Handler tyre manipulator attachment installs and rotates the massive tyres on mining and construction equipment. It is available in loader- or forklift-truck-mounted options, accommodates tyres to 16 000 kg, and includes lateral shifting, optional quick-coupler attachments, as well as tyre and rim assembly capabilities.

It also features 100° or 360° body rotation, giving the operator flexibility and control from the security of its integrated control console. Tyre clamps provide efficient, safe and damage-free handling, stacking, tilting and 360° rotation of tyres — widely used in tyre manufacturing and large mining truck tyre replacement.

Questions

Tyre Handlers — questions

01What is an OTR tyre handler?
A hydraulic manipulator that grips, rotates, tips and side-shifts an off-the-road tyre so it can be removed, presented to a hub and bolted up without slings or manual handling. Units in this range take tyres to 16 000 kg.
02Should I buy an attachment or a dedicated tyre handling machine?
If a suitable forklift, telehandler or wheel loader is already on site and available when tyres are changed, an attachment is the cheaper route. Where tyre changes are constant or the carrier is always working, a dedicated machine pays for itself in availability.
03How is a tyre handler selected?
By the largest tyre on site — its diameter, width and mass complete with rim — then by the carrier available to mount it and the rotation the tyre bay layout demands.
04Does ETEQ supply tyre handlers to Zambian mines?
Yes. Tyre handling equipment is supplied to Copperbelt and North-Western Province operations from the Kitwe branch, with the Solwezi supply point covering Kalumbila and Lumwana.
