Welding Consumables
MIG wire, flux-cored wire, TIG filler rods, stick electrodes and the torch consumables that go with them — quoted off a line list and delivered to the workshop or the shutdown.
Welding is where an industrial supply account is won or lost. The wrong grade of wire stops a procedure-qualified weld, and the right grade arriving a week late stops the job just as effectively. We hold the fast-moving sizes and quote the rest against a confirmed lead time rather than a hopeful one.
Lincoln Electric covers the work where the procedure sheet names the consumable and substitution is not an option. Taurus covers general fabrication, structural work and repair at a keener price, and carries the welding PPE alongside it so a mixed requisition stays on one order.

Welding Consumables — questions
- 01What is ER70S-6 MIG wire used for?
- It is the general-purpose solid MIG wire for mild and low-carbon steel. The higher silicon and manganese content lets it cope with mill scale and light rust better than ER70S-3, which is why it is the default in fabrication and repair.
- 02Should I use flux-cored or solid MIG wire?
- Solid wire with shielding gas gives a cleaner weld and suits workshop conditions. Flux-cored is more tolerant of wind, position and less-than-clean plate, which is why site and structural crews carry it.
- 03What is the difference between 6013 and 7018 electrodes?
- 6013 is easy to run and suits general fabrication and thin material. 7018 is a low-hydrogen electrode with higher strength and better toughness, used on structural and code work — and it must be kept dry in an oven.
- 04Do you supply welding consumables in Zambia?
- Yes. Consumables are stocked at the Kitwe warehouse for the Copperbelt and supplied through Solwezi for the North-Western mines, alongside the Johannesburg and Nelspruit stockholdings in South Africa.
- 05Can you quote against our line list?
- Yes — that is how most of this range is sold. Send the grades, diameters, pack sizes and quantities and we quote line by line, with a confirmed lead time on anything not held.
